We’ve stopped teaching people.
I’ve experienced this industry as an apprentice, a foreman responsible for developing apprentices, and now as a superintendent pushing those same crews to meet increasingly demanding schedules.
And I don’t think the apprentice is entirely the problem.
I don’t think the journeyman is either.
In this video, I break down how tighter schedules, production pressure, changing expectations, and a lack of real mentorship are affecting the way we develop skilled construction workers — and why that could become a much bigger problem for our industry.
