The average person will change careers five to seven times during their lifetime. The Sampson Group CEO and NBA Hall of Famer, Ralph Sampson, alongside Postseason CEO and former NFL player Jelani Jenkins, join Wealth with Brad Smith from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) floor.
These former-athlete entrepreneurs share five tips for changing careers: build and leverage your network, define your next play, be coachable, master your mindset, and feed your inner athlete.
Sampson says it was a "tough transition" to go from playing basketball to entering the business world. "Take what you learned in sports to life and implement that in some way — because there's going to be an adjustment, but you have the knowledge base power."
Jenkins echoes a similar sentiment, noting what helped him through the "very challenging" transition was to "acknowledge that I needed help [and] reaching out to the support system in my network and connecting ... with a mentor."
Watch the video above to hear a more detailed breakdown of Sampson's and Jenkins's career change playbook.
