Kyrie Irving whose full name is Kyrie Andrew Irving born March 23, 1992, is an American professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named Rookie of the Year after being selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2011 NBA draft. An eight-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA Team member, Irving won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016 and is widely regarded as one of the best ball handlers ever. Irving played one year of college basketball at Duke University before joining the Cavaliers in 2011. He earned the MVP award for the 2014 All-Star Game. In the 2016 NBA Finals, he hit the championship-winning three-pointer, capping the Cavaliers' historic comeback against the Golden State Warriors. After another Finals appearance in 2017, Irving requested a trade and was sent to the Boston Celtics, where he played for two seasons before signing with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. After four seasons with the Nets, he requested another trade and joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2023. Irving has also played for the U.S. national team, winning gold medals at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. In February 2020, he was elected as one of the seven vice-presidents of the National Basketball Players Association, replacing Pau Gasol. His decision not to get vaccinated for COVID-19 caused him to miss most of the 2021–2022 NBA season. Irving has promoted various conspiracy theories throughout his career. Some of his controversial statements, including a tweet linking to the movie "Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America," have been labeled as antisemitic. He also once promoted the idea that the Earth is flat, a claim he later retracted. Beyond basketball, Irving has written, directed, and acted in several advertisements as "Uncle Drew," which was made into a feature film in 2018. He has appeared as himself in "Kickin' It" (2012) and has provided voice work for "We Bare Bears" (2016) and "Family Guy" (2018).
