My best advice for anyone who is trying to find their calling -
Don't fall into the trap of how things are "supposed to be" and instead ask, "how can we make things better?
People generally go to the doctor when they feel sick, and to be frank, this is too late. I wanted to find a way to empower patients to get better access to healthcare earlier. This will not only improve your chances of preventing severe disease and illness, but it will also prevent debilitating healthcare costs and loss of quality life years.
There are a lot of opportunities outside of clinical medicine for doctors to help people and make an impact on patient care and health outcomes. I found a way to do this by finding a role in medical affairs at a health tech startup focused on helping clinicians provide the best patient care possible.
My mom said she still does not understand what I do and wants me to explain what I do in my day-to-day. In this video, I discuss the role of medical affairs in health companies and the benefits of being a doctor in the industry. I hope it can give others insight into how doctors can use their medical background and expertise in unconventional but fulfilling ways!
My best advice for anyone who is trying to find their calling:
Think outside the box. Don't fall into the trap of how things are SUPPOSED to be and instead question, HOW CAN WE MAKE THINGS BETTER?
