http://jdcareersoutthere.com/like-to-write-how-to-break-in-to-legal-journalism-as-a-lawyer/ Journalism careers make good jobs to do with a law degree thanks to the overlapping training and skill sets. Just ask ABA Journal Assistant managing Editor Jill Schachner Chanen, who tells us about these careers for lawyers in this interview.
There's a wide variety of law degree careers out there - and being a journalist is one of them. You'll find lots of journalists who have law degrees and may have even practiced law at one time. Jill is an example of someone who started her career as a practicing attorney but decided that changing careers and leaving law to become a journalist was a better fit for her.
Jill, in addition to her journalism job, teaches journalism at Columbia College in Chicago. In this video, she tells us about a typical day for a journalist and she also compares and contrasts the roles of being a writer and an editor.

In the full interview at JDCOT (available to JDCOT subscribers and Marc's coaching clients), Jill tells host Marc Luber how to break in to journalism careers. Although she got a Master's in journalism after deciding to leave law, she says it's not necessary. Jill tells us what skills and personality types best fit journalism jobs and how to succeed in this career path.
