“A learner with books on the table, a well-trained, highly-motivated, and well-paid teacher in front of them, teaching a curriculum carefully curated to their needs. At sa gitna nito, ang sentro ng ating pagsisikap, isang batang natututo,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said as he affirmed his commitment and called for collective support for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Agenda presented by Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte during the Basic Education Report (BER) 2024 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City.
In a clear nod to his Administration’s achievements, President Marcos Jr. praised the BER 2024 for its candidness and comprehensive approach. He conveyed his gratitude to Vice President Duterte for her leadership in managing the educational sector, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic, curriculum retooling and systemic reforms.
“We are cognizant that VP Sara and the whole of DepEd family are pulling out all the stops for the betterment of our basic education by focusing on ensuring our teachers’ teaching quality, competency, and well-being; improving our learners’ capacities and nutrition; and building better and more facilities to aid both teaching and learning,” he said.
A key focus of the President’s speech was the introduction of a new K to 10 curriculum, which is currently in its pilot phase across various regions. This move aligns with the Administration’s goal of decongesting the curriculum and emphasizing foundational skills.
