In today's video, I walk you through the options you have after high school and the financial repercussions of each one. Many high schoolers don't understand the number of possibilities there are for education and career after their graduation!
Here's what we cover.
1. Get a 4 year education:
This is an excellent option. I have a 4 year degree in agricultural engineering and I don't regret getting it at all. The issue with going to college is the cost involved. 4 year colleges and universities are very expensive, sometimes between $25k-$100k.
A 4 year education can be done well, though. Applying for scholarships and grants is a great first step. Getting a job and working through college along with living at home are equally beneficial.
But one of the best ways to lower the economic impact of college is by getting prerequisite classes completed at a community college, then attending an in-state public university to finish your degree. Private universities cost a pretty penny to attend unless you're offered an incredible scholarship.

2. Go to a trade school:
Trade schools are an incredible value for the price. They are generally 2 year programs and are far cheaper than a traditional college or university. Trades are plumbers, electricians, welders, linemen, and many others. They are high paying jobs as well! Getting into a trade can really put you ahead financially because they allow you to learn a high paying skill in a shorter period of time for less money. Mike Rowe is a big proponent for this career path!

3. Get an apprenticeship:
Apprenticeships are generally trades as well. However, they offer the opportunity to get paid for on-the-job training. And the experience builds towards certification in the chosen industry.

4. Enlist in the military
Serving our country offers the chance to get a higher education after completing a time of service through the tuition assistance. Also, signing with the ROTC at a major university can get your education fully covered in exchange for a period of time in service to the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
