As a labor market has gotten so incredibly competitive. One of the things that you may be considering in terms of upping your game is engaging with a career counselor. Now career counselors, their job is to essentially help you to objectively look at your career to help you to set goals and to help hold you accountable so that you move toward that goal. This can be an invaluable person in your career and in your life because a lot of times your friends and family have a vested interest in what you end up doing, so this career counselor can be very objective and helpful in actually pursuing your job. Career counselors should be well versed in industry. They should be able to help you to prepare for interviews, asking you sample questions, helping you rehearse. One of the things that you have to be careful about though in terms of career counselors is allowing them to take the reigns. At the end of the day, this is your career and your responsibility. So while a career counselor can help guide you into success, you can't become lazy in your own pursuit. You have to take responsibility. You have to be accountable. And you can best use this career counselor by virtue of having them supplement your effort. A career counselor can be immensely helpful, but at the end of the day getting the job, that's your job.
